All veterans, their spouses, caregivers able to receive vaccination through

All veterans, their spouses and their caregivers are now able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine through the Manchester VA, after new legislation was passed to allow the expanded access. The vaccinations will be administered at the Manchester facility, as well as some clinics across the state. Officials said appointments will be made available as early as Wednesday.Under the Save Lives Act, VA’s across the country can now administer the COVID-19 vaccine to those veterans, spouses and essential caregivers who are not currently eligible to be enrolled in the VA health care system.Veterans can register online through the VA or they can register in person at the VA in Manchester. Proof of military service is required. Register for vaccination through Manchester VAAnyone arriving to the Manchester facility in person could receive an appointment the same day. “It’s exciting because we have more supply now, it’s increasing so we really feel we can reach out to those who want to get the vaccine who may have had struggles getting it on the outside,” said Mary Jean Kellermann from the VA Manchester Healthcare System. The VA will receive their own allotment of Moderna and Johnson & Johnson doses from the CDC. The vaccine clinic coordinator at the VA, Jodi Hoitt, said to be able to offer the vaccine to veterans and the people they depend on is exciting.“In the very beginning when we were having our World War II veterans come in, I can’t tell you the number of veterans that tried to offer their vaccine to their wives or their caregivers,” Hoitt said.If there is any question about vaccine safety, staff said to reach out for help.“We see there is some hesitancy about getting the vaccine, if a veteran, their spouse or caregiver are concerned about it, call your provider and have that discussion,” Hoitt said. Scheduled clinics across the state offering one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccinations include;Nashua North High School on April 18By appointment and day-of registration while supplies are availableSomersworth Community Based Outpatient Clinic on April 23By appointment onlyTilton Community Based Outpatient Clinic on May 7 By appointment only MORE FROM WMUR
